Lee Ji-Won

Abstract
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify the childcaring stress of mothers of infant and toddler and its related factors.

Methods : The subjects included 193 mothers of infant and toddler who visited the wellbaby clinics of two general hospitals and one health care center in Busan city. Instruments used in this study were the ¢¥Childcaring Stress Scale¢¥ developed by Kim and Kang and ¢¥Self Depression Scale¢¥ of Zung translated by Lee. Data were collected by using a self-administered questionnaire from March 6 to April 15, 2003. The data were analyzed by SPSS WIN 10.0 program.

Results : The mean score of childcaring stress was 1.82. There were statistically significant differences in the childcaring stress by the health status of mothers (p=0.006), the age of children (p=0.021), the temperament of children (p=0.000), the degree of spouse support in the care of children(p=0.013), the number of children(p=0.008). There was a moderate significant correlation between childcaring stress and depression of mothers (r=0.498, p < 0.001) .

Conclusions : This study revealed that the health status of mothers, the age and temperament of children, the degree of spouse support in the care of children, the number of children and the depression of mothers were related to childcaring stress of mothers of
infant and toddler. It is suggested that related factors should be considered to provide nursing intervention for the childcaring stress.
